Elementary Technology: Does it hinder imagination?

In my local newspaper, they quote a teacher saying that an educational challenge is getting kids to use their imagaination instead of occupying their time with entertainment and technology.

When I first read this, I know she is probably talking about getting kids to think instead of playing Wii.

However, on another level, it saddens me to think that someone would think of technology in this way.

Technology can be used in so many ways to enhance imagination.

Students can be encouraged to use technology to create stories and pictures. Students can use technology to create PowerPoint presentations. Students can use technology to research topics and create projects, based on what they researched. Students can use sites, such as Bubl.us for brainstorming.

What is your opinion? Is this teacher right? Does technology hinder imagination and creativity?
